This misconception has had a fairly large impact on many things, for example the hotels. In most hotels they do not have a thirteenth floor. This is not because they believe in this superstition, it is because if someone were to come to the hotel and they believe in the superstition they will not stay in the hotel because they think something bad might happen. So because of this the hotels don’t have the floor so that everyone stays at the hotel. Another example is people with thirteen letters in their name. If you have thirteen letters in your name you are to be cursed in some cultures. Some examples of people with thirteen letters in their names are Jack the Ripper and Osama bin Laden. Although they have thirteen letters in their names, what happened to their middle names? Lastly in sports many players that have had the number thirteen on their jerseys and have been very good for example Wilt Chamberlain said the number thirteen wasn't unlucky for him, but it was for his opponents he also was the only player to score 100 points in a single game. Another example is Dan Marino who was an NFL quarterback who was the all-time leader in career TD passes, passing yards, attempts and completions. So there are some examples of misconceptions involving the number thirteen.
