I believe we are far more skilled at tracking 'time' than we are taught: I work with Sound-with-Picture (Film and TV) and I can estimate sync to a frame (one 25th of a second) or less, pretty standard for someone in my industry.
I think, that you may be aware that the change of hour is approaching (due to having a good, innate sense of timing) and so end up checking the clock during the minute of change.
It may seem portentous, but a minute is really quite long - see if you can refine your skill to looking at the clock within 10 seconds of it changing!
And maybe look for a job in Sound Post Production - these skills are always a plus! -C
