Properties of the number 37

---

Symbolism

• According to R. Allendy, it is "the individual evolution in the cosmic organization".

• According to Fathers of the Church, thirty seven is a symbol of the Christ. It is the symbol of the alive word of God. To this number is thus allotted a certain dignity.

• According to the antique science of Chaldeans, the number 37 symbolizes the Force, the Capacity and the Power.

General

• Some authors advanced that 37 is the number of centuries before J.-C. where would have occurred the creation of the world.

• According to the talmudic tradition, Isaac was 37 years old at the time of the sacrifice on the Moria mount.

• It was a time, in the ceremony of the mass, we counted 37 signs of cross: 25 during the canon, 12 out the canon.

• Massada was a fortress built close to the Dead sea, on the summit of a cliff. It was the place where Herod the Great had made build his round castle, surrounded by a wall of 18 feet height, and kept by 37 towers, high of 75 feet. It is in this fortress that the Zealots resisted during three years to the Roman legions, and where the last 960 Jews committed suicide, preferring it to the slavery.

• It is the normal temperature of the human body in centigrade degree. And it is also the ideal temperature for the feeding-bottles.

• The number 37 is the thirteenth prime number if we count 1 like such.

• In mathematics, numbers 037, 142857 and 012345679 are numbers known as circular, that is to say of the dividers of 10En-1 = 9...9, with "n" number 9, the numbers being completed of zeroes on the right to have "n" numbers. Thus for the number 37 we have: 037 = 10E3-1/27 = 999/27. An easy and interesting property to show of these numbers is their circular permutations are divisible by themselves. Thus, 370 and 703 are divisible by 037.

• There exists an interesting relation between numbers 37 and 666: from 666 we obtain 6+6+6=18 and 18 x 37 = 666.

• Some countries fix officially the working week at 37 hours.

• Interesting mathematics properties of 37:

                           111:  1+1+1=3 and 3 x 37 = 111
                           222:  2+2+2=6 and 6 x 37 = 222
                           333:  3+3+3=9 and 9 x 37 = 333
                           ...
                           999:  9+9+9=27 and 27 x 37 = 999
  

Gematria

• Numerical value of "I Am" in Hebrew, Ehieh. By seven times in the Gospel of saint John the Christ mentions it.

• Numerical value of the name of Abel in Hebrew. In the revelations of Maria Valtorta, Jesus mentions on several occasions that he is the new Abel.

• In the "Word of God", in Greek, the word "Word" is written rhma, numbering 37 by using the gematria in "n": 17+7+12+1=37. It is the same for the word silence, sigh, 18+9+3+7=37.

• The numerical values of Hebrew word ALEA meaning "The name of God", GDL meaning to grow, LBE meaning flame, and ZL meaning profession, gives each one 37.

Occurrence

• The number 37 is used 4 times in the Bible.

• The four Gospels use on the whole 37 different numbers, which are numbers 1 to 12, 14, 15, 18, 25, 30, 38, 40, 46, 50, 60, 72, 77, 80, 84, 99, 100, 153, 200, 300, 500, 2000, 4000, 5000, 10000 and 20000. The book of Exodus of the OT uses also on the whole 37 different numbers, of which the higher is 603550 (Ex 38,26).

• The word century is used 37 times in the OT and the word faith, 37 times in Gospels. Written under its cardinal form, the number 8 is used 37 times in the NRSV. The verb "to conceive" is used 37 times in the NRSV.

• In the New Testament four chapters have a total of 37 verses: Mark chapter 7 and 13, Luke chapter 17 and Act of Apostles chapter 4.

• In the Bible, 37 books use the number 10.
